VP Racing Fuels blends Q16 primarily for intercooled, forced induction drag race applications. Best of all, many regard it as the top oxygenated, leaded fuel produced by VP. It is required to increase fuel flow by 4-6% because it’s highly oxygenated. However, this make 3-5% more power than competitive 116 octane fuels. Furthermore, the added fuel flow also effectively increases the octane of Q16 by 6-8 numbers above its standard ASTM octane rating. As a result, it yields greater detonation protection.
VP also recommends it in any naturally aspirated drag race or truck pull application that doesn’t require fuel rules. Not only is it highly popular in drag racing and truck pulls, but also jet limited nitrous drag applications. Q16 is a real record setter!

VP Racing Fuels was founded by Steve Burns, who initially exhibited his aptitude for R&D in the early 1970’s as a young racer in San Antonio, Texas. Self-taught in chemistry and physics, Steve was convinced the race fuel manufacturers of the day were falling short in their quest for optimum horsepower.
To address this shortcoming, he began experimenting with exotic blends of fuel, much to the dismay of his parents whose garage served as Steve’s laboratory. Steve began at the local tracks of Texas, where racers tried his fuel and liked the power gains. His first fuel was christened “C12™,” the word spread and Steve’s company was founded as VP Racing Fuels in 1975.
